Have you ever wondered if there’s a difference between ghost and spirit? For some people such difference might not exists, for some ghosts might not exists at all. But since you found your way to this hub, I guess you’re already a believer so I can focus on explaining the difference between these two types of entities – as there’s is a difference between them indeed.
One person will say “ghost”, while other will say “spirit”. Normal people think both words are equal in meaning, but as people who study the paranormal phenomena, we can’t act like normal people, can we? In reality, ghost and spirit are two very different things, and I would like to explain the difference between these two terms.
Ghost is an apparition. It can be often connected to the residual haunting, in which no intelligence is present, and events are nothing more than a playback of past events, caused by residual energies that had been implanted within walls and surrounding area such as forest.
How such ghost looks like? It might be an animal, or a human-like person walking through walls or closed doors, this is a real ghost. This phenomena can not interact with witnesses or investigators, because in reality, it doesn’t exist in the present time and space. This can be explained in simpler way…
When you watch a movie, you are aware that events on the screen aren’t taking place right now, but took place some time ago, on a set and had been filmed. Now, you’re watching the playback. You get my point? Ghosts, as playback had been recorded some time ago, and the events we can see really took place quite some time ago, what we see is not the event itself, but the record of it. Hmm? Yes, it requires some level of abstract thinking 
.
A spirit, on the other hand, is something much more different than a ghost. Spirit is something that was left from the living person. When the body dies, the soul is free, and the soul can be also referred to us as spirit. Spirit is conscious, self-aware, it does have memories of the “earthly life” (in most cases), and it can interact with living people, it can interact with objects and general material, physical word. Such beliefs are represented by psychics in most cases, but due to lack of scientific explanation, often paranormal investigators do take this explanation as confirmed one.
One more word on the “self-aware” matter – sometimes the spirit is aware that it is dead (or that he is no longer “flesh and blood”), and it is simple paying a visit to Earth. But sometimes the spirit is only aware of its own existence, it does not now he is dead. In the first case, it’s something like simple saying goodbye to family and friends, in seconds is the need for help. Sometimes someone have to help spirit realise he no longer belong to this world and should move “into the light”, as some psychic tend to say.
As you can see, the difference between ghost and spirit is now clearly visible.
